Online Discussion: How Open Access to KGB Archives in Ukraine Can Transform “Post-Soviet Studies”
The Fund of the President of Ukraine for the support of Education, Science in collaboration with partners, invites researchers and students to participate in an online discussion on how open access to KGB archives in Ukraine can impact the field of “post-Soviet studies” in the West.
As part of Ukraine’s decommunization policy in 2015, the country took a radical step by fully opening the archives of communist security services. Despite the ongoing conflict in Ukraine today, Ukrainian archival institutions continue to digitize documents, provide services to users, and send archival copies upon request.
How can access to the world’s largest open KGB archive reshape Western Slavic studies that traditionally remain Russia-centric? How can this access be used for the “decolonization” of the field? Researchers will discuss these questions during the online meeting.
